Some Tips for Keeping Your Braces and Invisalign Clean

Clear aligners are the best solution for taking care of many dental issues. They are the retainers that help in repositioning the teeth that have grown abnormally.

As these aligners offer the best kind of help to your teeth, it is your responsibility to take care of them as required.

Urban Orthodontics is a team of dentists that work perfectly on all kinds of dental issues. They can be your helping guide in understanding everything about how to care for your braces and Invisalign after their installation. You can check their webpage or contact them to avail all the required information.

Maintenance of Invisalign

The clear aligners do not require thorough care, and they are very easy to look after. With some simple steps, you keep them as good as new till you use them. You will get a special kind of brush to clean them, and getting them can be of great help.

Here are some tips on how to clean and take care of your Invisalign.

  • Every time you remove the Invisalign, you need to rinse them thoroughly under running lukewarm water. Remember that the water cannot be too hot or too cold.
  • The next step is to gently brush them in circular motions with the help of a special kind of brush. Make sure that you cover both the inside and outside of the retainers.
  • Follow the process for at least 5 to 20 minutes.
  • After brushing the Invisalign, rinse them again in lukewarm water.

Follow these procedures once a week or a fortnight to keep your aligners clean. You might notice the accumulation of calcium or tartar buildup somewhere in them.

Since you will be wearing these clear aligners for 22 to 23 hours a day, the chances of tartar buildup are very high.

If you notice any white film or cloudy appearance in the Invisalign, then your aligners require extensive care as they cannot be cleaned with regular brushing procedures.

Some cleaning brushes come with instructions for usage, especially when cleaning the Invisalign thoroughly when there is a tartar buildup.

You can either consult your dentist about this or soak the clear aligners inside the special cleaning solution they provided you when they gave you the aligners.

Now, gently brush them to remove the cloudy or white film. After soaking for some time in the cleaning liquid, they can be removed completely.

Keeping Your Braces Clean

Unlike the clear aligners, you cannot remove the metal braces that are installed onto the teeth. Here are some tips to take care of them.

·       Brush

You will be given a special type of brush to clean the braces. Before using them, it is suggested that you rinse your mouth thoroughly.

·       Floss

Just the way you floss, you can do the same even with the braces on. Parents may have to help their minor children to floss.

·       Water-Jet

A water jet is the best way of removing all the unwanted particles that are stuck in between the teeth or inside the braces.

The best way to avoid the chances of accumulation of food particles is by following the suggested diet. Avoid all food items that have high acidic pH.
